Contour Construction served as General Contractor for the ground-up construction of the new 9,000 square foot John R. Webb VFW Post 3285, creating a permanent home for an organization that has served veterans and the Frederick County community for more than 90 years. As the first newly constructed VFW Post in the United States in more than two decades, the project carried both local and national significance. The combination of federal and state funding required disciplined cost management, detailed documentation, and careful coordination to maintain compliance while protecting the project’s schedule and quality objectives. Construction also presented complex site challenges, including Native Tribal Review requirements and significant rock excavation that required controlled procedures, sequencing adjustments, and close coordination between field leadership and project partners. Through early procurement, proactive decision-making, and disciplined subcontractor coordination, Contour delivered the facility 40 days ahead of schedule, allowing the Post to occupy the building sooner, reduce temporary space costs, and begin generating event revenue earlier than anticipated. The completed facility provides flexible gathering, meeting, administrative, and hospitality spaces designed to support the Post’s current membership while accommodating its continued growth. A 3,000 square foot lower level is also positioned to become the future West Park Veterans Service Center, extending the property’s long term value as a regional resource for veterans. More than a new facility, the project represents a lasting community investment designed to support service, fellowship, and veteran advocacy for generations to come.
